Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with results like these.”
Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
