Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
