Supporters Call for Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are calling for that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile features videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the popular stage show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
